A List Of Classic Books

Any list of classic books will include some of the world's most popular novels, but the short story and the novella should also be included. Popular classics of the English language cover different genres, are from different eras and are written to different lengths.

The novel is generally thought to be between 60,000 and 100,000 words in length but can often be longer. Samuel Richardson's 1748 novel, Clarissa is one of the longest at 969,000 words and, in contrast, The Notebook, by American novelist Nicholas Sparks, is one of the shortest at 49,000 words. Some experts argue that novels like The Notebook should be categorized as Novellas.

There are many examples of the novella including Robert Louis Stevenson's Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde and George Orwell's Animal Farm. At just over 30,000 words Animal Farm is short but its continued popularity shows that the novella is an important vehicle for literature. Both of these writers were also proponents of the short story. A format they used to gain public attention.

Like them, Bram Stoker also found regular work through writing short stories, but he is best known as the author of Dracula. Stoker's timeless novel is told in a collection of journals, diaries, letters and newspaper articles. Its author weaves them together to tell a story that has been enjoyed by millions of readers since it was first published in 1897. Dracula lovers can extend their knowledge of the count with the short story, Dracula's Guest.

Short stories are an often over looked literary form, even though important characters like Sherlock Holmes were popularized by the format. In all 56 short stories of the famous detective were published over 36 years

Short stories are often a way for writers to begin their careers, however some important writers are best known for their short stories. American author Edgar Allan Poe used the short story to make money whilst he wrote his poetry. But ironically, he is now best known for stories like The Fall of The House of Usher and The Tell-Tale Heart.

A lot of modern authors list Poe as an influence on their writing. This includes murder mystery writer Agatha Christie, whose creation Hercule Poiret owes a lot to Poe's Inspector Dupin. The personality traits the characters share can be attributed to the broad range of conventions of the genre which Poe created. Another popular author who found inspiration in Poe's work is Stephen King. Novels such as It, The Shining and Carrie may only be 30 to 40 years old, but they are already considered classic fiction.

Schizophrenic: How to Help a Loved One, Family Member, Spouse, or Friend with Schizophrenia

What if someone you love is suffering from schizophrenia? Surely, not only you, but everyone in the family is affected. As someone dear to the person experiencing schizophrenia, the illness can be very upsetting especially in an active stage. In fact, the initial episode can be very upsetting if you are clueless what to do or what is actually happening.

In my newest book “Schizophrenic: How to Help a Loved One, Family Member, Spouse, or Friend with Schizophrenia,” I give you tips on how to:

  • Help yourself first
  • Encourage your loved one to seek medical attention
  • Have an emergency plan when needed
  • What to say or do when your loved one is having an episode
  • Live with someone who is schizophrenic
  • And much, much more…

How to help a loved one with schizophrenia from the book:

As a person with a loved of suffering from the illness, here are some of the approaches you may try to persuade them to seek treatment as soon as possible:

1. Allow your loved one to recognize that you want to speak with them about something important. Doing this helps to make them pay their attention and think that what you have to say should be taken seriously.

4. Your loved one can be upset about the conversation. To prevent things from blowing up, try your best not to be so defensive. Just settle it, walk away, and try again at a later time.

11. Focus on specific symptoms. A person may refuse consultation due to fear of being accused as being crazy. To make things less threatening, you can recommend a visit to the doctor to address particular symptoms they might have such as lack of sleep or less energy.

12. Seek medical help as soon as possible. Early treatment can create a huge difference, so do it right away. It is your job to help your loved one find a good doctor and other reliable treatments.

More ways to help a loved one with schizophrenia from the book:

Recognizing the Crisis Situation

Schizophrenia is a brain disorder that can come with a variety of symptoms. Those affected by this illness may find it difficult to think logically or exhibit strange behaviors. At times, their emotional responses seem to be bizarre.

This means that your loved one may experience psychotic episodes where it is impossible to tell if they are happening because of the schizophrenia, or not. During such episodes, there can be hallucinations and your loved one may hear voices. They can be hostile, agitated, and always feel as if they are in danger. All of these things may come abruptly or in a slow progression. A crisis is definitely frightening not only for your loved one, but for you and all the people around you. If you can, prevent the crisis situation from happening.

When you have already persuaded a loved one to seek professional help, you need to support them all throughout the course of the treatment. It is advisable to ask them regularly on how the treatment is going and if there is something more you can do to help. Remember, you have lots of power in helping the one you love. So, use it well.

As you can see the tips offered in this book are straight to the point. You will be learning from condensed information on how to exactly help a loved one with schizophrenia

What to Expect Before You're Expecting Read Online

Download What to Expect Before You're Expecting book online now. You also can read books, comics and magazine. Get online What to Expect Before You're today.

Announcing the prequel. From Heidi Murkoff, author of America's bestselling pregnancy and parenting books, comes the must-have guide every expectant couple needs before they even conceive—the first step in What to Expect: What to Expect Before You're Expecting.

An estimated 11 million couples in the U.S. are currently trying to conceive, and medical groups now recommend that all hopeful parents plan for baby-making at least three months before they begin trying. And who better to guide wanna-be moms and dads step-by-step through the preconception (and conception) process than Heidi Murkoff?

It's all here. Everything couples need to know before sperm and egg meet up. Packed with the same kind of reassuring, empathetic, and practical information and advice and tips that readers have come to expect from What to Expect, only sooner. Which baby-friendly foods to order up (say yes to yams) and which fertility-busters to avoid (see you later, saturated fat); lifestyle adjustments that you'll want to make (cut back on cocktails and caffeine) and those you can probably skip (that switch to boxers). How to pinpoint ovulation, time lovemaking, keep on-demand sex sexy, and separate conception fact (it takes the average couple up to 12 months to make a baby) from myth (position matters). Plus, when to seek help and the latest on fertility treatments—from Clomid and IVF to surrogacy and more. Complete with a fill-in fertility journal to keep track of the babymaking adventure and special tips throughout for hopeful dads. Next step? What to Expect When You’re Expecting, of course.
Book Description
More and more couples are planning for conception, not only for financial and lifestyle reasons, but in response to recent recommendations from the medical community. In the same fresh, contemporary voice that has made the 4th edition of What to Expect When You're Expecting so successful, Heidi Murkoff explains the whys and wherefores of getting your body ready for pregnancy, including pregnancy prep for both moms and dads to be. Before You're Expecting is filled with information on exercise, diet, pinpointing ovulation, lifestyle, workplace, and insurance changes you'll want to consider, and how to keep your relationship strong when you're focused on baby making all the time. There are tips for older couples; when to look for help from a fertility specialist--including the latest on fertility drugs and procedures--plus a complete fertility planner.

Read Heidi Murkoff's Introduction to What to Expect Before You're Expecting
Pregnancy, as you probably know, is nine months long (or 38 weeks from conception, if you're really serious about keeping count). And if you've ever been pregnant before, you probably think that's plenty long enough. But is nine months really long enough? Does that time-honored baby-making timetable really stand up to the latest obstetrical science?

According to more and more research--and more and more experts (including the Centers for Disease Control, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the American College of Pediatrics)--the answer is maybe not. That traditional nine-month figure is being challenged by a surprising new suggestion: It’s time to add more months to pregnancy.

That's right, more months. At least three more months, in fact, for a full year (or even more) of baby making. But before you panic (three extra months of not seeing my feet? Of passing on the sushi? Of waiting to hold that bundle of joy?), here’s what you need to know: Those extra months aren’t meant to be spent being pregnant, they’re meant to be spent getting ready to be pregnant.

Before you're expecting--and before you even begin trying to expect--is the best time to get both your bodies into tip-top baby-making shape. And that's why I've written What to Expect Before You're Expecting--a complete, step-by-step preconception plan to help you and your partner prep for pregnancy. Whether you're hoping to fill your nest for the first time or the fourth (or more!), a little conception know-how--which lifestyle adjustments you should make now (cut back on caffeine and cocktails) and which you can hold off on (get your sushi while you can!); which foods are fertility-friendly and which are fertility busters (say yes to yams and oysters, so long to saturated fats); how extra weight can weigh on your fertility and his; how to track fertility and pinpoint ovulation--can help you fill that nest faster. What's more, the right preconception protocol can help ensure a healthier and more comfortable pregnancy (think less morning sickness, a lowered risk of premature delivery and gestational diabetes) and a healthier bundle of baby. And the plan doesn't end when you're finished with the prepping. It covers baby-making how-to's, do's, and don'ts--everything you need to know about conception sex (from timing, to logistics, to positions, and more).

Whether you've begun your conception campaign already or you're just starting to think about getting pregnant, it’s never too late--or too early--to start optimizing your preconception profile, giving the baby of your dreams the healthiest possible start in life. So put time on your side, and add a few months to your baby-making calendar. More pregnancy, as it turns out, is more.
